Runna + Garmin Duplicate Runs on Strava
Record on the Garmin, let Runna guide, and disconnect Runna → Strava so one clean run posts.
Diagnosis
Both Runna and your Garmin can post the same run to Strava — and because Strava only de-dups best-effort, you'll see the duplicate some days and not others. Make the Garmin watch the one recorder, send Garmin → Strava, and disconnect Runna → Strava.
Your setup at a glance
| Role | Assigned to | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Workout guide | Runna | Owns the structured session and your plan. |

Data route
This is the fix: which connections to keep and which to switch off.
✅ Enable these
- Garmin Connect → Strava — Your one clean run reaches Strava.
❌ Disable these
- Runna → Strava — Re-posts the run Garmin already sent.
During the workout
Do start
- ✓Start the Runna workout on your Garmin — the watch records it.
- ✓Let the watch sync to Garmin Connect after the run.
Don't start
- ✕Don't also track the run in the Runna phone app — that's the second copy.
- ✕Don't manually upload to Strava — Garmin does it for you.
Step-by-step setup
Account links
- Connect Garmin Connect → Strava (Garmin Connect → Settings → Connected Apps → Strava).
- Disconnect Runna → Strava (Runna → Profile → Connected Apps & Devices → Strava → Disconnect; or Strava → Settings → Partner Integrations → Runna).
Device settings
- Sync your Runna plan to the watch (Runna ↔ Garmin Connect) so each session appears under Workouts.
During each workout
- Start each run from the synced Runna workout on the watch — not in the phone app.
Verify it worked
- After a run, confirm exactly ONE run in Strava and that Runna marks the session complete.
⚠️ Duplicate-risk warnings
Runna and Garmin both reach Strava → the run appears twice (intermittently, thanks to Strava's best-effort de-dup).
Fix: Keep Garmin → Strava; disconnect Runna → Strava.
What data to trust
- Trust Garmin watchfor distance, pace and time (your single recorded file).
You'll know it worked when…
One run in Strava with no duplicate, and your Runna plan shows the session as completed.
Frequently asked questions
Why do my runs show up twice on Strava when I use Runna and Garmin?
Both Runna and your Garmin watch can post the same run to Strava. Because Strava only de-duplicates uploads best-effort, the duplicate shows up some days and not others. Record on the Garmin and disconnect Runna → Strava.
How do I disconnect Runna from Strava?
In Runna: Profile → Connected Apps & Devices → Strava → Disconnect. Or in Strava: Settings → Partner Integrations → Runna. Runna can still guide the workout on your watch.
Should I record the run in the Runna app or on my watch?
Record on the watch only and let Runna push the workout to it. Recording in both the phone app and the watch is what creates the second copy — Runna's own support recommends recording in one place.
