Peloton + Apple Watch Duplicate on Strava
Peloton and your Apple Watch both post the same class to Strava. Let Peloton record the class and pair the Watch for heart rate instead of recording separately.
Diagnosis
Your Peloton class shows up twice on Strava because both Peloton and your Apple Watch post it. The cleanest fix is to let Peloton record and post the class, and pair the Apple Watch to Peloton for heart rate — instead of recording a separate Workout-app session that also reaches Strava (and triple-counts in Apple Health).
Your setup at a glance
| Role | Assigned to | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Workout guide | Peloton | Owns the class and its metrics. |
| Source of truth / recorder | Peloton | Records and posts the class once. |
| Sensor · heart rate | Apple Watch | Feeds HR into the Peloton class. |
| Destination | Strava | Fed from Peloton only. |
Data route
This is the fix: which connections to keep and which to switch off.
✅ Enable these
- Peloton → Strava — The class reaches Strava once.
- Apple Watch → Peloton (heart rate) — HR shows inside the Peloton class.
❌ Disable these
- Apple Watch → Strava (these classes) — A separate Watch recording re-posts the class.
During the workout
Do start
- ✓Start the class on Peloton and connect your Apple Watch as the heart-rate monitor.
Don't start
- ✕Don't also start a separate session in the Apple Watch Workout app for the same class.
Step-by-step setup
Account links
- Connect Peloton → Strava (Peloton app → Settings → Connected Apps → Strava).
- If your Apple Watch (via Health) also posts to Strava, turn that off for these classes so only Peloton posts.
Device settings
- In the Peloton class, pair the Apple Watch / your HR source so heart rate shows in the class.
During each workout
- One class = one Peloton recording. Don't run a parallel Apple Watch Workout for the same class.
Verify it worked
- Confirm exactly ONE class in Strava (posted by Peloton, with HR), and one entry in Apple Health.
⚠️ Duplicate-risk warnings
Peloton and the Apple Watch both reach Strava → the class appears twice.
Fix: Let Peloton post the class; pair the Watch for HR instead of recording a separate Workout.
A separate Apple Watch workout also writes to Apple Health, which has no de-dup → distance double-counts.
Fix: Don't record a parallel Watch session for the class.
What data to trust
- Trust Pelotonfor the class output, distance and time.
- Trust Apple Watchfor heart rate (paired into the class).
You'll know it worked when…
One class in Strava posted by Peloton with your heart rate, and no duplicate from the Apple Watch.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my Peloton class show up twice on Strava?
Both Peloton and your Apple Watch post it. Let Peloton record and post the class, and pair the Apple Watch to Peloton for heart rate instead of recording a separate Workout-app session.
Should I record on the Apple Watch or let Peloton post the class?
For Peloton classes, let Peloton post and use the Watch as the HR source. That avoids both the Strava duplicate and Apple Health double-counting.
